ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal injection of ranibizumab combined with macular grid photocoagulation for diabetic macular edema. <p>METHODS: In this prospective cohort study, total 78 patients(101 eyes)diagnosed with diabetic macular edema in Dongguan People's Hospital from October 2016 to December 2018 were randomly divided into two groups. 40 patients(52 eyes)were in combination therapy group and 38 patients(49 eyes)were in monotherapy group. The changes of best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), central retinal thickness(CRT)and frequency of injections in two groups were compared after 12mo follow-up.<p>RESULTS: At the end of 12mo follow up, the BCVA(0.44±0.22 <i>vs</i> 0.55±0.23)and CRT(335.3±65.9μm <i>vs</i> 370.4±84.4μm; <i>P</i><0.05)were better in combination therapy group than that in monotherapy group. Fewer injections were required in combination therapy group compared with that in the monotherapy group(4.04±1.08 <i>vs</i> 5.83±1.92 injections, <i>t</i>= -5.722, <i>P</i><0.05). There was no significant difference between two groups(13.87±2.55 <i>vs</i> 14.04±2.69mmHg, <i>P</i>>0.05)in intraocular pressure. <p>CONCLUSION: Combination therapy of ranibizumab and macular grid photocoagulation was an effective treatment for DME patients, could significantly reduced the frequency of injections, and represent a superior therapeutic approach to DME patients.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To evaluate the effect of orthokeratology on progression of juvenile myopia and analysis its influencing factors.METHODS: Totally 97 patients (189 eyes,aging from 8 to 17 years old) who received orthokeratology lenses treatment in our hospital from January 2012 to December 2014,were followed up for 2a.The visual acuity,corneal curvature,diopter,and ocular axial length were observed.Factors of influencing myopia progress in juvenile were analyzed.RESULTS: At 1mo after receiving orthokeratology contact lenses,the visual acuity and corneal curvature were changed compared with that of before(P<0.001).After 2a of receiving orthokeratology contact lenses,the difference was significant compared with baseline: spherical equivalence (-0.51±0.64D,t=10.864,P<0.001),axial length(0.33±0.31mm,t=14.879,P<0.001),corneal astigmatism (-0.25±0.43D,t=5.375,P<0.001).Statistic analysis showed that there was a negative correlation between the spherical equivalence and age,baseline of diopter or ocular axial length(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Orthokeratology can effectively improve the visual acuity of patients.Although there is slightly progression in diopter and ocular length after 2a of wearing orthokeratology contact lenses.Orthokeratology is an effective treatment on controlling progression of juvenile myopia,especially in the elder children who with the longer basic axial length and the greater diopter.

ABSTRACT

Tumor metastasis, the main biological characteristic of malignance tumor, is the important cause of death for most cancer patients. The process of tumor metastasis is complex and involves a dynamic combination of vessel, lymphatic system and microenvironment of metastatic organ. Organ specific arrest and adhesion of tumor cells within microvessels of potential target organs is a vital step during the formation of blood borne metastasis. In this article, recent studies on the organ specific arrest and adhesion of circulating tumor cells were comprehensively summarized focusing on the related theory, hypothesis and methodology including the model employed and the research methods involved. The article also discussed the biomechanical factors, endothelial cells and chemokines regulating the arrest and adhesion of circulating tumor cells, and pointed out some recent new phenomena as well as new approaches and directions worthy of investigation.
